Consulate General of India in Vancouver encourages members of Indian community and friends of India to hoist the Tiranga (National Flag of India) in their homes during 13-15 August 2023. Click a selfie with the flag & upload on Har Ghar Tiranga website harghartiranga.com.The display / hoisting / use of the Indian National Flag is governed by the Flag Code of India, 2002 and the prevention of Insults of National Honour Act 1972.

Proso-millet

Proso-millet (Panicum miliaceum L.) is an underutilized crop which is highly nutritious cereal grain used for human consumption, bird seed, and/or ethanol production. Grains of proso Millet are a rich source of vitamins (niacin, B-complex vitamins, and folic acid), minerals (PCa, Zn, Fe) and essential amino acids (methionine and cysteine), starch, and phenolic compounds like antioxidants and Beta-glucan. Seeds also contain components with healing benefits, which decrease the level of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in blood and injury to the liver and high lecithin content which supports the neural health system.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hailed India's improved show at the World University Games, saying it is a performance which will make every Indian proud. India ended their World University Games (WUG) campaign with their best-ever performance, winning a record haul of 26 medals, including 11 gold, in Chengdu, China.Modi tweeted, "A sporting performance that will make every Indian proud!... A salute to our incredible athletes who have brought glory to the nation and inspired upcoming sportspersons." He noted that at the 31st World University Games, Indian athletes returned with a record-breaking haul of 26 medals!

India succeeds in reducing emissions rate by 33% over 14 years

India's greenhouse emissions rate dropped by a faster-than-expected 33% in 14 years as renewable energy generation rose and forest cover increased, according to two officials privy to latest assessment made for submission to the United Nations. The report's findings showed India well on the way to meeting a commitment to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), to reduce emissions intensity by 45% from the 2005 level by 2030.

India’s solar parks generate 10.2 GW power nationwide

Union minister for new & renewable energy and power R. K. Singh on Wednesday said India’s solar power projects’ initiative has resulted in the establishment of solar projects boasting a collective capacity of 10.2 GW across the country.In a written reply in Rajya Sabha, the minister emphasized that the “Development of Solar Parks and Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects" initiative has been granted an approved budget of ₹8,100 crores. The scheme has been extended till the fiscal year 2025-26, without any additional financial outlay.

India: Ayush Visa launched for foreign travellers to promote medical tourism

The Ministry of Home Affairs has notified the creation of a new visa category, Ayush Visa, for foreign nationals, who are keen to visit the country for medical treatment including therapeutic care, wellness and yoga in India. The introduction of this special visa will meet the purpose of introducing a special visa scheme for foreigners visiting India for treatment across different streams.Reports add that Ayush Visa aims to fulfil the need for introduction of a special visa scheme for foreigners. Referring to this, Union Minister of Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal added that this new initiative will help boost medical tourism in India, and will strengthen their endeavour of making Indian traditional medicine a global phenomenon.

BofA upgrades Indian market outlook, sees Nifty at 20,500 by December

The Bank of America has upgraded the outlook for the Indian market and said it sees Nifty hitting 20,500 points by December, citing stronger domestic inflows and no risks of recession in the US. This comes a week after Morgan Stanley upgraded the Indian equities market to the number one slot among emerging markets (EMs) in Asia, excluding Japan, and going past Korea and the UAE.

‘Showing great strength’: PHDCCI’s GPS Index on the Indian economy increases 14.1% on-year

PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (PHDCCI’s) GPS Index for July went up from 136.1 in July 2022 to 155.3 in July 2023, recording an increase of 14.1 per cent year-on-year. The GPS Index captures the momentum in supply side business activity. The commerce chamber said that the GPS Index has shown a steady momentum despite global headwinds such as high inflation and the uncertainties arising out of the Russia-Ukraine war.

The Reserve Bank on Thursday said the internationalization of the unified payments interface (UPI) system is a work in progress as it works towards linking it with more and more overseas counterparts, including some in the West and Japan. On February 21, 2023, the RBI announced the first linkage of UPI by integrating it with Singapore's Paynow, paving the way for faster and more transparent remittances between the two countries.

Apple India revenue grows double digits to hit June qtr record

The company posted a quarterly revenue of $81.8 billion, down 1 percent year-on-year (YoY), and quarterly earnings per diluted share of $1.26, up 5 per cent YoY.Despite a 1 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) dip in Q3 revenue, India continues to shine as a top-performing market for iPhone manufacturer Apple. According to Tim Cook, Apple's chief executive officer, the company's Indian operations recorded double-digit y-o-y growth and set a quarterly record in the June quarter, fuelled by robust iPhone sales.
